Historic MoU Signed for Telecom Manufacturing Zone
In a significant development, the Union Minister for Communications and Development of the North Eastern Region, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, along with Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in New Delhi at Vigyan Bhawan. This agreement marks the establishment of the country's inaugural Telecom Manufacturing Zone (TMZ) in Gwalior. This initiative is seen as a pivotal moment in ushering in a new era for India's telecommunications manufacturing sector and is considered a major milestone in the nation's industrial and technological advancement.
During the event, Minister Scindia emphasized that this ambitious project will significantly contribute to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of an Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India), Make in India, Digital India, and the goal of a developed India by 2047. It aims to position India as a global hub for telecommunications manufacturing.
He further explained that the Telecom Manufacturing Zone will be developed over approximately 350 acres in Gwalior, utilizing a state-of-the-art Plug-and-Play model. The Indian government has approved full financial assistance of ₹493 crores for the development of the project's initial infrastructure.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav remarked that the establishment of this Telecom Manufacturing Zone in Gwalior will serve as a landmark in making the country self-reliant in telecommunications production. He noted that the integrated manufacturing complex will facilitate the research, development, and production of mobile phones, network equipment, fiber optics, semiconductors, and technologies related to 5G and 6G.
Yadav added that the Gwalior Telecom Manufacturing Zone will create a comprehensive ecosystem for telecommunications manufacturing, aligning with national initiatives like the Semiconductor Mission and Electronics Component Schemes. This will enable the entire process from research to production to be conducted in one location, providing new opportunities for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and startups, attracting significant investments, and boosting the global export of telecommunications equipment made in India.
It is noteworthy that Gwalior was selected for the establishment of the country's first Telecom Manufacturing Zone due to the dedicated efforts and continuous initiatives of Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia. This achievement will not only enhance Madhya Pradesh's profile but also strengthen India's position on the global telecommunications manufacturing map.
