India's Import Ban on Pakistan: Key Details

New Delhi: The Indian government has announced an immediate ban on the direct and indirect import of all goods from Pakistan, as per a recent notification from the commerce ministry.

This ban has been incorporated into the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023, which states that all imports or transit of goods originating from or exported by Pakistan are prohibited until further notice.

The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) indicated that this measure is taken in the interest of national security and public policy.

Any exceptions to this ban will require explicit approval from the Government of India.

The FTP now includes a section titled 'Prohibition on Import from Pakistan,' which clearly states that all goods from Pakistan, regardless of their import status, are banned immediately until further orders.

This decision comes in the wake of a tragic terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, which resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals, primarily tourists.
