On the same day, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that American military forces had executed a significant strike against Venezuela and its leadership. He stated that the U.S. intends to oversee the country and control its vast oil reserves until a proper transition can be established.
The U.S. government has accused Maduro of engaging in narco-terrorism and drug trafficking, claims that the Venezuelan administration firmly denies.
In response, the Venezuelan government has labeled the actions of the U.S. as military aggression and has called for the immediate release of Maduro and Flores.
Following Maduro's capture, Venezuela's Supreme Court instructed Executive Vice President Delcy Rodríguez to take on the role of acting president to ensure administrative continuity and national defense, as reported by various news sources.
The court indicated that it would discuss the situation to establish the legal framework necessary to maintain state continuity and government administration in light of the president's forced absence.
This decision was made due to Maduro's declared inability to fulfill his presidential duties, as noted by multiple agencies.
