India Establishes Control Room Amid West Asia Crisis
Control Room Set Up for Indian Citizens in West Asia
NEW DELHI, Mar 4: In response to the escalating crisis in West Asia, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has established a dedicated control room to support affected individuals.
The MEA has emphasized that the safety and welfare of nearly one crore Indian nationals residing in West Asia is a top priority for the Indian government.
As tensions between Iran and the US intensified, the Indian embassy in Tehran successfully relocated hundreds of Indian students to safer areas.
"A Control Room has been established within the Ministry of External Affairs due to the current circumstances in West Asia and the Gulf region," the MEA announced on Wednesday.
"Individuals can reach the Control Room from 9 am to 9 pm at the following numbers: 1800118797 (Toll Free), +91 11 2301 2113, +91 11 2301 4104, +91 11 2301 7905," it stated.
On February 28, the US initiated military strikes against Iran, resulting in the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
In retaliation, Iran has launched a series of attacks primarily targeting Israel and US military installations across several Gulf nations, including the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia.
The MEA reiterated on Tuesday that the safety and well-being of the approximately one crore Indian citizens in the Gulf region remains a critical concern.
"We cannot ignore any developments that may adversely impact them," the MEA remarked.
The ministry assured that it will continuously monitor the situation and make decisions that align with national interests, while maintaining communication with regional governments and other significant partners.
