India Ensures No Fuel Shortage Amid Global Tensions
Government Assures Fuel Availability
On Tuesday, Hardeep Singh Puri, the Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, reassured citizens that there is no shortage of fuel in the country. He highlighted that India's LPG production has significantly increased, currently reaching 54,000 tons daily, compared to the previous output of 35,000 to 36,000 tons. This production level is sufficient to fill approximately 3,802,817 domestic gas cylinders, each weighing 14.2 kg. The minister emphasized that there are no issues with the supply of LPG.
India's Oil and Gas Reserves
During the annual business conference of the Confederation of Indian Industry, Puri stated that the country has a reserve of crude oil and LNG for 69 days, along with 45 days' worth of LPG. He noted that the daily LPG production was ramped up to 54,000 tons in response to the ongoing conflicts in West Asia. He urged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call for prudent measures should be seen as a signal to consider strategies to alleviate fiscal pressures arising from the regional turmoil.
Government's Efforts to Mitigate Crisis Impact
Prime Minister Narendra Modi mentioned on Sunday that the government is working to shield citizens from the adverse effects of the West Asia crisis. He stressed the importance of judicious fuel usage, postponing gold purchases, and delaying foreign travel to strengthen the economy.
PM Modi's Call to Citizens
While addressing a rally in Hyderabad, the Prime Minister advised reducing petrol and diesel consumption, increasing metro usage in cities, adopting carpooling, and promoting electric vehicles. He also encouraged utilizing railway services for parcel transport and adopting 'work from home' practices to conserve foreign currency. Modi emphasized the need to protect foreign exchange reserves during this crisis and called for a halt on gold purchases and foreign travel for a year.
