India's Response to Sheikh Hasina's Media Interaction

New Delhi, August 7 - On Friday, India clarified its position regarding former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's media interaction, stating that it neither played a role in the event nor supports her comments about the Bangladeshi government. During her online press conference on Wednesday, Hasina expressed her determination to return to Bangladesh in December to restore democracy, even if it means facing imprisonment or the death penalty.

The Bangladeshi Foreign Ministry reacted strongly to Hasina's media statements. After her government fell due to student protests, she arrived in India from Dhaka on August 5, 2024. When asked about Bangladesh's response, Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal reiterated the government's stance, saying, 'I had already conveyed the government's position on this issue before the press conference. I am reiterating it here.'

Jaiswal emphasized, 'This event was organized by a private media entity, and the government had no involvement in it. The government does not endorse any statements made on that platform, particularly concerning the duly constituted government of Bangladesh.'

When questioned about comments made by Hasina's son, Sajib Wazed, regarding Bangladesh becoming 'another Pakistan,' Jaiswal stated that India is closely monitoring any developments that could impact national security.
