India Distances Itself from Alleged Track-2 Talks with Pakistan
Clarification from the Indian Government
The Indian government has officially distanced itself from the alleged Track-2 dialogues between India and Pakistan, asserting that such meetings have no formal connection with the government. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri stated that these events are organized at a private level, with neither participation nor endorsement from the Indian government. Responding to media reports, Misri emphasized that such gatherings are not a new phenomenon, as similar events occur globally on various topics.
He further clarified that these meetings should not be given undue significance, as they are entirely private initiatives.
No Official Involvement
Misri explicitly stated that these events are conducted by private individuals and organizations and should not be interpreted as official communications. He noted that the Indian government has no involvement in these gatherings. While he refrained from commenting on the Pakistani government's stance, he reiterated that there is no official participation, support, or involvement from India's side.
He reiterated that the Indian government does not assign any special importance to such meetings, indicating that they do not even acknowledge these events due to their lack of substantial official relevance.
Recent Developments in Track-2 Dialogue
Recently, there have been reports of Track-2 dialogues involving former officials, experts, and civil society members from both India and Pakistan. This has led to inquiries directed at the government. Track-2 dialogues typically refer to informal discussions that include former officials, strategic experts, academics, and individuals from the social sector. The aim of these meetings is to exchange views on bilateral issues; however, they do not represent any government's official policy or stance. The latest statement from the Indian government clearly indicates that New Delhi does not consider such informal initiatives as part of the official diplomatic process and maintains a distance from them.
