India Denies Elon Musk's Involvement in Modi-Trump Call Amid Geopolitical Tensions
Clarification on the Modi-Trump Conversation
New Delhi: On Saturday, the Indian government clarified that the recent phone call on March 24 was solely between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump, refuting claims that Elon Musk participated in the discussion.
This call was the first communication between the two leaders since tensions escalated in the Middle East, particularly involving Israel and the US against Iran, starting February 28.
The dialogue primarily revolved around the ongoing developments in West Asia.
A spokesperson from the Ministry of External Affairs stated, "We have seen the story. The telephone conversation on March 24 was between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Donald Trump only," firmly denying any involvement from a third party.
The spokesperson reiterated, "As previously mentioned, it allowed for an exchange of views regarding the situation in West Asia."
This clarification followed a report from a prominent US publication, which cited unnamed officials claiming that Musk had joined the call.
The report described Musk's participation as unusual for a private citizen during a diplomatic call between two heads of state amid a crisis.
It also highlighted a previous fallout between Trump and Musk after the billionaire stepped down from his government role aimed at workforce reduction.
However, it remains uncertain why Musk would be included in such a significant diplomatic discussion or if he contributed to the conversation.
After the call, Prime Minister Modi took to social media to share insights from the exchange, emphasizing the importance of de-escalation and peace in the region.
He stated, "Received a call from President Trump and had a useful exchange of views on the situation in West Asia. India supports de-escalation and restoration of peace at the earliest. Ensuring that the Strait of Hormuz remains open, secure, and accessible is essential for the whole world. We agreed to stay in touch regarding efforts towards peace and stability."
The government's clarification aims to dispel any rumors regarding the involvement of a private individual in a sensitive diplomatic matter during a time of increased geopolitical tension.
