India Condemns Attack on Nationals in UAE: Calls for Immediate Peace
India's Strong Response to Fujairah Attack
New Delhi: On Tuesday, India expressed its strong disapproval regarding the injury of three Indian citizens in a drone attack in Fujairah, a key port city in the United Arab Emirates, labeling the incident as 'unacceptable.' The Indian government urged for an immediate halt to hostilities that endanger innocent lives.
This statement followed an incident where a drone strike ignited a fire in a significant oil sector area in Fujairah, with the UAE attributing the attack to Iran.
Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the External Affairs Ministry, stated, 'The attack on Fujairah that resulted in injury to three Indian nationals is unacceptable.' He emphasized the need for an immediate end to hostilities and the protection of civilian infrastructure.
Jaiswal reiterated India's commitment to dialogue and diplomacy to restore peace and stability in the West Asia region.
'We advocate for free and unobstructed navigation and trade through the Strait of Hormuz, in accordance with international law. India is prepared to assist in all efforts aimed at achieving a peaceful resolution,' he added.
The attack coincided with rising tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, where a ceasefire between the US and Iran is under pressure.
The Strait of Hormuz is crucial, as it facilitates the passage of approximately 20% of the world's oil and gas, and ongoing conflicts have severely disrupted shipping, leading to soaring oil prices and energy shortages in various nations.
The UAE's defense ministry reported that its air defense systems intercepted 12 ballistic missiles, three cruise missiles, and four drones launched from Iran.
The ministry assured that it 'remains fully prepared and ready to address any threats and will decisively confront any actions that jeopardize the nation's security.'
