India's Exciting Chase

In a gripping encounter on Sunday, India triumphed over New Zealand in the first ODI held in Vadodara, thanks to Virat Kohli's exceptional performance and significant contributions from Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, and Harshit Rana. India successfully chased down a target of 301, sealing the match with four wickets remaining, aided by a solid partnership between KL Rahul and Washington Sundar.

The Chase Unfolds

As India began their chase, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill opened the batting. After a cautious start, Sharma found his rhythm, hitting a six off Zakary Foulkes in the 6th over. He followed this with another six and a four against Kyle Jamieson, marking his 650th six in international cricket.

However, Jamieson dismissed Sharma in the 9th over for 26 runs off 29 balls, which included three fours and two sixes. By the end of the power-play, India stood at 48/1, with Gill and Kohli still at the crease.

Kohli's Historic Milestone

In the 13th over, Kohli hit a four off Adithya Ashok, reaching a remarkable 28,000 runs in international cricket, making him the fastest to achieve this milestone in just 624 innings, surpassing legends Sachin Tendulkar and Kumar Sangakkara.

Following a slow start, India accelerated past the 100-run mark by the 17th over. Kohli's performance also saw him surpass Sangakkara's total, making him the second-highest run-scorer in international cricket, trailing only Tendulkar.

Crucial Partnerships and Late Drama

Kohli and Gill both reached their fifties, putting India in a strong position. Gill's score of 56 marked his fifth fifty-plus score in just 13 ODIs against New Zealand. However, Ashok broke the partnership in the 27th over by dismissing Gill.

Shreyas Iyer joined Kohli, and in the 31st over, Iyer hit Ashok for 15 runs. Kohli fell short of a century, getting out for 93 runs, while Jadeja joined Iyer at the crease. Jamieson struck again, removing Jadeja and later Iyer for 49 runs.

Harshit Rana was promoted in the batting order and scored a quick 29 runs off 23 balls, while Sundar supported Rahul to finish the chase.

New Zealand's Innings

Earlier, New Zealand set a competitive total of 300/8 in their innings, led by Daryl Mitchell's impressive 84 runs, along with contributions from Devon Conway and Henry Nicholls.

After winning the toss, India chose to bowl first. The Kiwi openers laid a solid foundation with a 117-run partnership, reaching 50 runs in just over 10 overs. Nicholls was the first to be dismissed, scoring 62 runs, followed by Conway at 56 runs.

Despite a strong start, New Zealand's middle order struggled to capitalize, with Mitchell holding the innings together until he was dismissed by Prasidh Krishna. Kristian Clarke's late innings contribution helped New Zealand reach 300 runs.
