India Clinches T20 World Cup Title Again with Victory Over New Zealand
BCCI Vice President Applauds Team India's Triumph
Rajeev Shukla, the vice president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), expressed his admiration for the Indian cricket team after they successfully defended their T20 World Cup title. The team achieved this remarkable feat by defeating New Zealand in the final held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
India secured a convincing 96-run victory, marking a historic moment as they became the first team to win the T20 World Cup on home soil. This win also made them the first team to clinch consecutive titles, following their 2024 victory, and the first to lift the trophy three times, with previous wins in 2007, 2024, and now 2026.
BCCI VP Praises Team's Strength
In a statement to the media, Shukla congratulated the Indian team for their outstanding performance in the T20 World Cup 2026. He emphasized the team's remarkable strength and resilience, highlighting their consecutive title wins as a testament to their capabilities. Shukla also commended the management for their unwavering support of Sanju Samson, who had faced challenges earlier in the tournament but ultimately delivered a stellar performance.
"Team India has emerged as a very strong team. No matter how much you praise the team, it is still less. The consecutive wins show how strong the team is. Despite Sanju Samson's performance in earlier matches, the team management had faith in him and gave him a chance."
Sanju Samson's Stellar Performance
Sanju Samson played a pivotal role in the final, scoring 89 runs off 46 balls, which was the highest score in the match. His innings, along with contributions from Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Shivam Dube, propelled India to a formidable total of 254 runs in the first innings.
This match marked Samson's third consecutive fifty, following an unbeaten 97 against the West Indies in a crucial Super 8s match and 89 runs against England in the semifinals. His remarkable comeback was particularly impressive given the scrutiny he faced from fans and experts due to earlier low scores.
Minister Extends Congratulations
Yogesh Ramdas Kadam, a minister from Maharashtra, also congratulated the Indian team on their victory. He noted that the strong batting performance in the initial overs was crucial to their success and expressed optimism for the team's future performances.
"I congratulate the team. The way we batted in the first 5 overs, that's where we won the match. The entire team played very well. I hope that this performance continues in the future as well," he stated.
