On Sunday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his congratulations to Indian athletes, particularly squash players, who achieved remarkable success at the Asian Games. The Prime Minister's Office shared multiple posts on social media, highlighting India's impressive seven-medal achievement on Day 8 of the event.

India's Medal Count Rises

India secured a total of seven medals on Sunday, which included two silver medals in squash and five in athletics. This brought the country's overall medal tally to 37, comprising four gold, 16 silver, and 17 bronze medals, placing India 12th in the overall standings.

PM Modi Congratulates Squash Medalists

The Prime Minister expressed his admiration for Anahat Singh, who won a silver medal in women's singles squash. The PMO remarked, "A splendid Silver for @Anahat_Singh13! Her performance in the Women’s Singles Squash at the Asian Games has been impressive. She has shown tremendous skill, notably while competing against some of the finest players. May she continue to scale new heights and bring many more laurels to India: PM @narendramodi."

Anahat made history by becoming the first Indian woman to reach the finals in Asian Games squash singles, although she ultimately lost to Malaysia's Sivasangari Subramaniam with scores of 4-11, 4-11, 7-11.

Abhay Singh's Silver Achievement

PM Modi also congratulated Abhay Singh for his silver medal in the men's singles squash event. The PMO stated, "Congratulations to @abhaysinghk98 on winning the Silver Medal in Men’s Singles Squash at the Asian Games! His skill and determination have made India proud. This achievement reflects the hard work he has put in over the years. Best wishes to him for the journey ahead: PM @narendramodi."

Abhay, currently ranked 26th globally, faced Malaysia's world No. 17 Ng Eain Yow, who defended his title, with a match score of 9-11, 5-11, 5-11.

Athletics Medal Highlights

In athletics, notable performances included Ancy Sojan winning silver in the women's long jump, while Sarvesh Kushare also secured silver in the men's high jump. Additionally, Harita Bhadra, Parul Chaudhary, and Tejaswin Shankar earned bronze medals.

Overall Performance

Despite the seven medals won on Sunday, India did not secure any gold, resulting in a drop from 10th to 12th place in the overall standings, even as the total medal count increased to 37.
