Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya praised the remarkable achievement of Parinaaz Dhaliwal and Anantjeet Singh Naruka, who clinched India's first-ever bronze medal in the skeet mixed team event at the Asian Games 2026. The duo secured this historic medal during the finals held in Aichi-Nagoya on Thursday.

In a post on X, Mandaviya expressed his excitement, stating, "Historic Bronze for Bharat! Heartiest congratulations to Parinaaz Dhaliwal and Anantjeet Singh Naruka on securing the first-ever Bronze Medal in the Skeet Mixed Team event at the #AsianGames2026. #Cheer4Bharat". This achievement marks a significant milestone for Indian shooting sports.

India achieved a total score of 44 across six series, while China set a new world record with a score of 52 to take home the gold medal. South Korea followed closely, earning the silver with a score of 51. Notably, China surpassed the previous world record of 47, which was held by Qatar since January 2026, with Qatar finishing in fourth place with 18 points.

This bronze medal adds to India's tally of 15 medals at the Asian Games, which includes one gold, six silvers, and now eight bronzes. In shooting events alone, India has secured eight medals, evenly divided between silver and bronze.

During the qualification round, Anantjeet and Parinaaz finished fourth with a score of 138 out of 150 points, trailing behind Qatar (145), South Korea (143), and China (140). Their performance in the finals was commendable, allowing them to compete for the title alongside these top teams.

Both athletes were also part of their respective men's and women's skeet teams, which won medals on Wednesday. Anantjeet played a pivotal role in the men's team's bronze medal victory, while Parinaaz, along with teammates Raiza Dhillon and Maheshwari Chauhan, contributed to the women's team's bronze medal success.

Disappointment in Men's Air Pistol

Following this success, the men's 10m air pistol team faced disappointment as Kamaljeet, Kedarling Balakrishna, and Aakash Bhardwaj finished fourth. The team scored 1727-53x, falling short of the podium. China topped the event with a score of 1743-70x, followed by Indonesia (1743-57x) and Japan (1730-54x).

Kamaljeet completed his 60 shots with a score of 580-16x, placing him ninth overall. Aakash finished eleventh with a score of 579-20x, while Kedarling Uchaganve ended in 35th place with a score of 568. Only the top eight shooters qualify for the individual finals, and India's team slipped from third to fourth due to Kedarling's performance.

Wushu: Roshibina Devi Secures Silver

In another highlight, Indian wushu athlete Roshibina Devi earned her second consecutive silver medal at the Asian Games, competing in the women's sanda 60 kg final against China's Zhang Xiaoyu. Roshibina, who also won silver at the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games, lost both rounds with a score of 0-5, as reported by ESPN.

With this achievement, Roshibina becomes the first Indian woman to secure three consecutive medals in Wushu at the Asian Games, having previously won a bronze in 2018. Her impressive journey included a victory over the 2023 world champion Nguyen Thi Thu Thuy from Vietnam. In the semi-finals, she defeated Indonesia's Thania Kusumaningtyas 2-0 to reach the final.

Rowing: Bronze in Men's Double Sculls

Additionally, the duo of Satnam Singh and Salman Khan earned a bronze medal in the men's double sculls final on Thursday, finishing with a time of 6:13.25. They were just 3.48 seconds behind the gold medalists Yi Xudi and Nie Yide from China, and 2.76 seconds behind the silver medalists Mekhrojbek Mamatkulov and Pavel Sorin, according to ESPN. The pair maintained a strong position at the 500m, 1000m, and 1500m marks but lost momentum towards the end.
