India and UK Strengthen Strategic Ties Amid Security Concerns

Strengthening India-UK Strategic Partnership

On Thursday, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval engaged in detailed discussions with his British counterpart, Jonathan Powell. The primary focus of their conversation revolved around addressing concerns related to terrorism, extremism, and the activities of pro-Khalistan elements in the UK. Officials indicated that in light of the unstable geopolitical climate, both sides agreed to further enhance the comprehensive strategic partnership between India and the UK.


Doval and Powell also exchanged views on the volatile situation in West Asia and its implications for maritime security and trade. According to officials, Doval emphasized that dialogue and diplomacy are the only viable paths to resolving these conflicts. This discussion took place under the framework of the annual India-UK strategic dialogue.


The officials noted that both NSAs reiterated the importance of advancing the goals outlined in the India-UK Vision 2035 document, which includes enhancing long-term bilateral strategic cooperation in technology, defense, and security.


Deepening Cooperation on Security Issues

They highlighted the necessity of deepening cooperation to address security concerns related to terrorism, extremism, and pro-Khalistan elements. Doval expressed gratitude to the UK government for its ongoing support on these issues and stressed the need to maintain momentum by further enhancing collaboration between law enforcement agencies of both nations.


Doval and Powell also reviewed the progress made under the India-UK Technology Security Initiative (TSI), mentioning some significant outcomes achieved in sectors such as telecommunications, critical minerals, and artificial intelligence.


Advancements in Semiconductor Collaboration

Officials reported that NSA Doval expressed satisfaction with the collaboration under TSI, which has enabled the establishment of a silicon carbide-based compound semiconductor facility by Clas-SiC Wafer Fab Ltd in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, in partnership with India's SiCSem Pvt. Ltd. He noted that both sides agreed to enhance cooperation in areas such as semiconductors, quantum computing, biotechnology, and advanced materials.


Furthermore, they acknowledged that bilateral defense cooperation has gained significant momentum, emphasizing the importance of deepening defense industrial collaboration within the broader framework of the India-UK defense industrial roadmap.
