India and Pakistan Agree to Ceasefire Amid Rising Tensions

Ceasefire Agreement Between India and Pakistan
Following the ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized that India has maintained a steadfast stance against terrorism. He announced on social media that both nations have agreed to halt military actions and gunfire. This statement came after a significant escalation in tensions between the two neighboring countries, which occurred just two days prior. The conflict intensified on Friday night when Pakistan launched missile attacks and utilized 300-400 Turkish-made drones against India. Both countries have consented to cease all forms of military operations and gunfire from 5 PM on Saturday, May 10.
Details of the Ceasefire Negotiations
During a press conference, India's Foreign Minister Vikram Misri revealed that Pakistan's Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) reached out to India's DGMO to de-escalate tensions. Following this communication, India agreed to a ceasefire on its terms. The DGMOs of both nations are scheduled to reconvene on May 12 to discuss further actions regarding the ceasefire. The Pakistani government confirmed that it had initiated contact with India, leading to direct discussions about the ceasefire after several days of military actions and heightened tensions.
U.S. Involvement in Ceasefire Talks
Earlier, former U.S. President Donald Trump announced that after a lengthy night of negotiations facilitated by the United States, he was pleased to declare that India and Pakistan had agreed to a complete and immediate ceasefire. He congratulated both nations for using common sense and great wisdom in resolving the situation, thanking them for their attention to this matter.
