Strengthening India-Israel Relations
New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized India's unwavering support for Israel, highlighting the shared threat both nations face from terrorism. He called for a unified global stance against terrorism in all its forms during a meeting with Israel's Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar in New Delhi.
Jaishankar remarked, "India and Israel share a strategic partnership that is deeply meaningful. We have supported each other during challenging times, establishing a relationship built on trust and reliability. Our nations confront significant challenges from terrorism, and we must advocate for a global zero-tolerance policy against it."
During Sa'ar's inaugural visit to India, Jaishankar expressed that this engagement would facilitate a review of bilateral cooperation and identify further opportunities for enhancement.
"The recent signing of our bilateral investment agreement marks a significant milestone. It's also important to note that your colleagues in agriculture, economy, tourism, and finance have recently visited us. India has made substantial advancements in various sectors, including rail, road, and port infrastructure, renewable energy, and healthcare. Our businesses are eager to explore opportunities in Israel, and we aim to focus on this aspect more closely," he stated.
Jaishankar also acknowledged India's attentiveness to developments in Israel, welcoming the return of hostages and the remains of those who lost their lives. He reiterated New Delhi's backing for the Gaza peace initiative, expressing hope for a sustainable resolution in the region.
He pointed out that an increasing number of Indian workers are now in Israel due to the mobility agreements between the two countries. "There are certain issues that require attention, and I hope we can advance this aspect of our relationship," he added.
Emphasizing the significance of strategic cooperation and dialogue on regional and global matters, Jaishankar stated, "There are several plurilateral initiatives that interest both of us. I look forward to discussing this further."
