India and Indonesia Strengthen Ties: A New Era of Cooperation
Strengthening Bilateral Relations
New Delhi: On Sunday, India and Indonesia engaged in discussions aimed at enhancing their collaboration in various sectors, including defense, maritime trade, investments, pharmaceuticals, and food security. This meeting was hosted by External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, who welcomed his Indonesian counterpart, Sugiono, for comprehensive talks.
Indonesia plays a crucial role as a partner for India in Southeast Asia, and the relationship, particularly in trade and investment, has seen significant growth in recent years.
Sugiono is currently in New Delhi for a three-day visit.
Jaishankar expressed his delight in welcoming Sugiono and his delegation for the eighth India-Indonesia Joint Commission meeting, emphasizing the importance of this gathering.
He also reflected on the productive discussions held between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto during the latter's visit to India in January of the previous year.
This visit has undoubtedly added new energy to our comprehensive strategic partnership, Jaishankar remarked.
The two nations engaged in thorough discussions that spanned the entire range of bilateral cooperation, from political and defense matters to maritime trade, investments, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and food security.
Sugiono acknowledged that President Subianto's visit to India last year was instrumental in setting a new direction for the India-Indonesia partnership.
