India and China to Form Groups for Resolving Border Disputes
New Developments in India-China Relations
On Thursday, the Chinese Ambassador to India, Shuo Feihong, announced the establishment of two groups aimed at addressing the ongoing border disputes between India and China. He revealed that during the recent two-day visit of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi to New Delhi, both nations reached an agreement on ten key points. The impact of these developments on the bilateral relationship remains to be seen. Former Army Chief General M.M. Naravane expressed his satisfaction regarding the improving situation between the two countries.

General M.M. Naravane (Retd.) stated on Thursday that it is a positive development that the process of improving India-China relations has commenced, with various initiatives being taken to enhance political, diplomatic, and military dialogue and cooperation. Speaking at an event later that evening, he remarked, “We hope that as we move forward, China will reciprocate our goodwill in a similar manner.” This comment came amid recent efforts to improve ties between India and China.

India and China announced several measures on Tuesday aimed at fostering ‘stable, cooperative, and long-term’ relations. These measures include maintaining peace along the border, reopening border trade, promoting investment flows, and restoring direct flight services as soon as possible. General Naravane (Retd.) emphasized that the current pace of dialogue and changes between India and China is not a result of external pressures. He stated, “We have always desired good relations with China.”
He also expressed happiness that discussions regarding the border dispute between India and China are progressing. The former Army Chief noted, “This is a border, not a boundary, and like a border, it is open for dialogue... Some level of negotiation is possible.” Naravane concluded by stating that it is encouraging that relations with China have improved in recent weeks, with multiple initiatives announced at political, diplomatic, and military levels to enhance bilateral ties.
