Significant Diplomatic Engagement Between India and China

In light of the ongoing border standoff and diplomatic strains between India and China, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval has conveyed crucial messages to Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi regarding bilateral relations. During a bilateral meeting held alongside the BRICS NSA conference, Doval emphasized the need for both nations to maintain sensitivity towards each other's 'core concerns.' This meeting is viewed as a significant step towards de-escalating tensions along the border and fostering mutual understanding.

Emphasis on Trust and Understanding

According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, NSA Doval highlighted that stable and constructive bilateral relations would enhance trust and strengthen mutual understanding between the two countries. He stated, 'Doval stressed the importance of consistently showing sensitivity towards each other's key concerns.' However, Jaiswal did not specify what these concerns are. He noted that demonstrating ongoing sensitivity aligns with our overall approach of mutual sensitivity, interests, and respect. During the meeting, both sides also reviewed the overall situation along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).

Experts Weigh In on the Meeting's Implications

Experts believe that the meeting between Doval and Wang Yi at the BRICS platform indicates both countries' desire to keep communication channels open. However, lasting peace will only be achievable if China acknowledges India's strategic and regional concerns and collaborates to restore the situation along the LAC to its pre-April 2020 status.
