In a significant joint press conference, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva underscored their nations' shared commitment to combat terrorism with a firm stance of zero tolerance. Modi expressed gratitude for Lula's support following a recent terrorist attack in India, highlighting the deepening defense cooperation between the two countries. The discussions also encompassed various sectors, including agriculture, energy, and technology, showcasing a broad partnership aimed at fostering mutual growth. This visit marks a pivotal moment in India-Brazil relations, emphasizing their united front against global terrorism.

Strengthening Ties in the Fight Against Terrorism

During a recent joint press conference with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the shared commitment of India and Brazil to combat terrorism with a stance of 'zero tolerance and zero double standards.' He highlighted that both nations firmly reject any form of double standards in addressing terrorism, stating, 'We strongly oppose terrorism and its supporters.'


PM Modi noted that the increasing collaboration in defense signifies a profound mutual trust between the two countries. He expressed intentions to further integrate their defense industries and enhance this partnership. Additionally, he mentioned the expanding cooperation in Artificial Intelligence and supercomputing, which aligns with their mutual vision for inclusive growth and human-centered innovation.


The Prime Minister also expressed gratitude to President Lula for condemning the Pahalgam attack that occurred on April 22, which resulted in the loss of 26 innocent lives. During a special briefing regarding PM Modi's state visit to Brazil, P Kumaran, Secretary (East) of the Ministry of External Affairs, reiterated India's unwavering commitment to combat terrorism in all its forms.


Kumaran highlighted that PM Modi thanked President Lula for his strong condemnation of the Pahalgam attack and for extending solidarity to the Indian people. He also reaffirmed India's determination to fight terrorism, with President Lula expressing his full support in this endeavor.


The discussions between PM Modi and President Lula covered a wide range of topics, including defense and security, agricultural and nutritional security, energy transformation, climate change, digital advancements, and industrial partnerships. They also addressed healthcare, traditional medicine, tourism, space exploration, and cooperation in digital public infrastructure.


The Ministry of External Affairs announced that several agreements were signed during this visit, including one focused on combating international terrorism and transnational organized crime. PM Modi was warmly welcomed at the Alvorada Palace in Brasilia, where he met with President Lula and participated in the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, engaging in bilateral discussions with various world leaders.
