India Aims to Revive Formula 1 and MotoGP by 2030 and 2028 Respectively
Plans for Major Motorsport Events in India
Efforts are underway to reintroduce Formula 1 to India by 2030, along with a round of the World Rally Championship (WRC) and MotoGP by 2028. This announcement was made by FMSCI President Arindam Ghosh following a meeting with the Sports Ministry in Delhi.
During the FMSCI Annual Awards ceremony, Ghosh stated, 'Our discussions with Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of State Raksha Khadse, and other key stakeholders were centered on the return of F1, MotoGP, and WRC to India.' He emphasized the importance of nurturing Indian drivers and enhancing the motorsport landscape in the country, noting that the Federation's suggestions were positively received.
FMSCI Annual Awards Celebrate National Champions
At the Awards Night held in Bengaluru, the National champions of motorsports for 2025 were recognized, with a total of 137 trophies awarded across 17 categories, encompassing both two-wheeler and four-wheeler disciplines. Additionally, accolades were presented to the winning teams, promoters, and sponsors of the 17 National championships. Notably, the youngest National champion, 9-year-old Arshi Gupta from Delhi Public School, Faridabad, along with Eshanth Vengatesan from Chennai and Bengaluru's Ishaan Madesh, received FIA president's medals for their achievements in National karting.
Special Awards for International Achievements
The FMSCI also honored individuals for their accomplishments on the international stage. Hyderabad's Naveen Puligilla and Musa Sherif from Kasargod made history as the first Indian team to achieve a podium finish in the WRC3 class at the Rally Saudi Arabia. Aishwarya Pissay was recognized as the first Indian woman to win a round of the FIM Women's Circuit Racing World Championship (2WRC) in Portugal last year.
Accolades for Asian-Level Success
At the Asian level, Chennai's Jagathishree Kumaresan was celebrated for securing third place in the Girls category at the Asian Cup of Circuit Racing in Taiwan. Muskaan Jubal received a gold medal in the mixed doubles category at the Asia Auto Gymkhana Challenge (AAGC). Special awards were also given to Achintya Mehrotra for his gold medal at the FIA Motorsport Games Gymkhana event and Aaruthran Prabhu for winning a Karting Slalom gold at the FIA Asia Pacific Motorsport Championship.
Tarushi Vikram was acknowledged for her two Silver medals, one from the Asia Pacific Motorsport Games in Colombo and another from the AAGC.
Recognition for Officials and Volunteers
Awards were presented to Ashwinkumar Pandit (sporting official), CV Srinath (technical official), and Gautam Shanthappa (marshal) for their dedicated service as volunteers.
