India Achieves Unprecedented T20I Sixes Record
India Sets Historic T20I Milestone
In a remarkable achievement, Team India has become the first squad in T20I history to hit 400 sixes within a single calendar year. This milestone was reached during the fifth and final T20I match against New Zealand at Seddon Park in Hamilton on Sunday. Throughout the year, India has played 40 T20Is, accumulating a total of 400 sixes, significantly outpacing Austria (224 sixes in 24 matches) and the West Indies (224 sixes in 21 matches). Notably, 142 of these sixes were struck against New Zealand, marking the highest tally against any opponent in a calendar year.
Six-Hitting Leaders and Match Summary
The leading six-hitters for India include Abhishek Sharma with 86 sixes, Ishan Kishan with 60, and Sanju Samson with 50. Despite a challenging start, half-centuries from captain Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan propelled India to a total of 191/8 after 20 overs. At one point, India found themselves at 19/2, but a partnership of 93 runs between Ishan (61 runs off 31 balls, including five fours and six sixes) and Shreyas (50 runs off 23 balls, with three fours and four sixes) stabilized the innings. Contributions from Naman Dhir (33 runs off 23 balls) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (22 runs off 17 balls) were also vital. However, New Zealand's Adam Milne, with figures of 4/19, took crucial wickets late in the innings, preventing India from surpassing the 200-run mark.
