India's Archery Success at the Asian Games
On Day 8 of the Asian Games, India showcased its archery prowess by securing victories in all team events. Both the men's and women's recurve teams reached the semifinals, joining the mixed recurve and the compound teams in the final four. The men's recurve squad triumphed over China with a score of 5-1, while the women's team delivered an impressive 6-0 win against Chinese Taipei, as reported by ESPN.
With these results, all five Indian archery teams competing on Sunday advanced to the semifinals. The semifinals for the men's, women's, and mixed recurve teams are set for October 2, while the compound mixed team semifinals will take place on September 30. Individual events in the compound category will commence on Monday.
Earlier, Dhiraj Bommadevara and Kumkum Mohod secured a 6-0 victory against Vietnam in the recurve mixed team quarterfinals after defeating the UAE in the Round of 16. They are set to face Japan in the semifinals.
In the compound mixed team event, Sahil Jadhav and Chikitha Taniparthi overcame Kazakhstan with a score of 159-154 in the quarterfinals, having previously defeated Mongolia in the Round of 16. They will compete against Thailand in the semifinals. Additionally, both the men's and women's compound teams from India also advanced, marking a successful day for the archers.
Boxing Medal Secured
In boxing, Ankush guaranteed India a medal by winning against Tajikistan's Nekruz Salimov in the men's 80kg quarterfinals.
Athletics Achievements
In athletics, Sreeshankar Murali and David Solomon qualified for the men's long jump final, while Vithya Ramraj and Anu Raghavan made it to the women's 400m hurdles final. Santhosh Kumar Tamilarasan also reached the men's 400m hurdles final. Tejaswin Shankar is currently in third place in the decathlon with two events remaining after finishing seventh in the discus throw.
Badminton Campaign Ends
In badminton, PV Sindhu and Unnati Hooda exited in the women's singles quarterfinals, concluding India's campaign in the sport with the men's team securing a bronze medal as the only accolade.
Shooting and Other Sports Updates
India experienced mixed results in shooting, with Neeru leading the women's trap qualification after the first day. Manu Bhaker, Esha Singh, and Rahi Sarnobat also participated in the women's 25m pistol qualification.
In other competitions, India's women's fencing team was defeated by Uzbekistan in the team sabre quarterfinals, while Sivaraj Babu progressed to Round 3 of the men's shortboard surfing event.
