India A Secures Final Spot with Victory Over Afghanistan A
India A Triumphs in Tri-Nation Series
India A clinched a decisive victory against Afghanistan A by 101 runs, thanks to impressive half-centuries from Priyansh Arya, Tilak Varma, and Kumar Kushagra, along with a stellar all-round performance by Nishant Sindhu. This win guarantees India A a place in the finals of the tri-nation series.
Entering the match, India A faced pressure, having secured only one win out of three matches. However, their recent performance has now paved the way for them to compete in the finals, with the outcome of the Sri Lanka A vs Afghanistan A match determining the other finalist on Friday.
India A Sets a Challenging Target
Afghanistan A won the toss and chose to bowl first. Priyansh Arya began strongly alongside Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who scored 38 runs off 28 balls, including four boundaries and two sixes. However, their partnership of 75 runs was broken when Arya (58 runs off 32 balls, with nine fours and a six) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (30 runs off 31 balls, with four boundaries) were dismissed.
Tilak Varma (59 runs off 75 balls, with five fours) and Kumar Kushagra (58 runs off 67 balls, with five fours) then formed a crucial 104-run partnership. Contributions from Nishant Sindhu (21* off 26 balls) and Vipraj Nigam (30 runs off 20 balls, with four boundaries) helped India A reach a total of 319/8. Faridoon Dawoodzai, Abdullah Ahmadzai, and Farmanullah Safi each took two wickets for Afghanistan.
Afghanistan A's Chase Falls Short
In their chase, Afghanistan A struggled early, finding themselves at 70/3. However, a resilient 87-run partnership between Faisal Shinozada (46 runs off 56 balls, with two fours and a six) and Bahir Shah (57 runs off 52 balls, with four boundaries and a six) gave them hope. Unfortunately for Afghanistan, they could not maintain the momentum as Nishant Sindhu (4 wickets for 31 runs) and Yash Thakur (2 wickets for 48 runs) led India A's bowling attack, restricting Afghanistan A to 218 runs in 36.5 overs. Anshul Kamboj, Suryansh Shedge, Vipraj Nigam, and Anukul Roy also contributed with a wicket each, while Sindhu was named 'Player of the Match.'
