Income Tax Department's Unique Operation in Sonbhadra Targets Mining Mafia
Dramatic Income Tax Raid in Sonbhadra
In a remarkable operation reminiscent of a film plot, the Income Tax Department has executed a significant raid in Sonbhadra district, Uttar Pradesh. Officers arrived in vehicles adorned with wedding stickers, creating a stir as they approached the locations linked to mining operators. This operation, led by the Varanasi zone, focused on the stone quarries owned by Eeshana Construction. To maintain secrecy, the department employed an innovative strategy, disguising their vehicles to avoid suspicion. Contrary to expectations, the cars were not filled with wedding guests but rather contained over 100 officials from the department. The raid has been ongoing for more than 26 hours across more than 14 locations.
Advanced Surveillance Techniques Employed
The department is utilizing cutting-edge technology for this operation. Drone cameras are actively monitoring the stone quarries of Eeshana Construction, while satellite technology is being used for geo-mapping of the sites. This allows for a comparison between the approved mining limits and the actual excavation data, aiding in the identification of illegal mining activities.
Political Connections Under Scrutiny
The investigation has now extended into political circles, with the team reaching the residence of Samajwadi Party leader Istiak Khan in Hazratganj, Lucknow. However, Khan was not found in either Sonbhadra or Lucknow. Sources indicate that he is currently out of the state, but communication with officials is ongoing, and he has been instructed to present himself soon.
Indications of Major Financial Irregularities
The Income Tax Department has also targeted the State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Obra, where accounts linked to Eeshana Construction are under thorough investigation. Three bank employees have been detained, and their mobile phones and documents have been confiscated. Initial findings suggest irregularities in issuing MM-11 (mining transit passes) and significant discrepancies in financial transactions.
Silence in the Mining Belt Amidst Fear
The once-bustling Billi-Markundi mining area is now eerily quiet. The Income Tax Department is closely monitoring everything from crusher plants to quarries. This strategic planning, disguised as a wedding procession, has left the entire mining network in shock. Officials believe that as the layers of banking transactions are uncovered, significant revelations may emerge in the near future.
