In a significant initiative led by Smt. Shalini Bhargava Kaushal, IRS, Principal Commissioner of Income Tax-1, Chandigarh, and under the guidance of Sh. Sridhar Dora, IRS, Commissioner of Income Tax, Shimla Range, the Income Tax Office in Dalhousie hosted an extensive Income Tax Awareness Camp at ITC, Fortune, Dalhousie. This event aimed to educate stakeholders about the essential provisions, goals, and transition framework of the New Income Tax Act, 2025. The camp specifically targeted members of the Hotel Association and prominent assessees in the area, focusing on enhancing understanding and compliance with the new tax regulations.


The event commenced with a welcoming speech from Sh. Vinit Kumar, the Income Tax Officer in Dalhousie, who outlined the camp's objectives and the department's outreach efforts. Following this, a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation was delivered, detailing the changes introduced by the New Income Tax Act, 2025. The presentation addressed structural modifications, including updated tax slabs, revised definitions, streamlined exemptions and deductions, simplified filing processes, digital assessment methods, and specific timelines for the transition. Special attention was given to issues pertinent to the hospitality industry, such as business income treatment, presumptive taxation, TDS/TCS implications, and record-keeping obligations.


Smt. Shalini Bhargava Kaushal, IRS, served as the Chief Guest and addressed the attendees. In her keynote speech, she elaborated on the motivations behind the New Income Tax Act, 2025, emphasizing its aim to simplify processes, focus on taxpayers, and minimize litigation. She highlighted the necessity for voluntary compliance and encouraged businesses and professionals to adapt their systems to meet the new requirements, assuring them of ongoing support from the department throughout the transition. She also advocated for constructive dialogue between taxpayers and the administration to tackle practical challenges.


The session saw active engagement from participants, who raised various questions regarding capital gains treatment, loss carry-forwards, applicability to partnership firms, and the transition of previous assessments. The Chief Guest provided clarifications and offered personalized assistance where necessary.


The camp concluded with a formal Vote of Thanks delivered by Sh. Vinit Kumar, expressing appreciation to the Chief Guest, participants, and the organizing team for their contributions to the event's success. He reaffirmed the department's commitment to facilitating taxpayer engagement, outreach, and responsive grievance resolution as the New Income Tax Act, 2025, is implemented.


Participants expressed their gratitude for the Income Tax Department's initiative in organizing the awareness camp in Dalhousie, recognizing the clarity provided regarding the New Income Tax Act, 2025, and committed to cooperating fully to ensure compliance and disseminate information among their members.
