Inauguration of the Annual Amarnath Yatra Marks a Spiritual Journey

Official Launch of the Amarnath Yatra

The annual Amarnath Yatra, a symbol of faith and devotion, officially commenced on Friday. On this auspicious occasion, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his best wishes to pilgrims arriving from across the nation and abroad through a letter. He expressed hopes for a safe and prosperous journey for the devotees of Baba Barfani.

Notably, the pilgrimage began as the first group of pilgrims set off from the two base camps at Baltal and Nunwan, embarking on their journey to the cave temple located at an elevation of 3,880 meters in the southern Kashmir Himalayas. This cave is renowned for its naturally formed ice Shiva Lingam.

PM Modi's Message to Pilgrims

In his letter to the pilgrims, PM Modi remarked, "The Amarnath Yatra, associated with the vision of Baba Barfani, is an eternal chapter of our spiritual heritage and cultural unity. I wish for this journey of the devotees of Shiva to be safe and auspicious in every way! My letter includes five resolutions for the pilgrims on this sacred occasion."

Pilgrims Depart from Base Camps

The groups of pilgrims, including men, women, and sadhus, departed at dawn from the Nunwan base camp in Pahalgam, Anantnag district, and the Baltal base camp in the Ganderbal area of central Kashmir.

As the deputy commissioners and SSPs of the respective base camps waved the green flag, the air resonated with chants of 'Bam Bam Bhole'. On Thursday, over 4,809 pilgrims were flagged off by the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu.

Warm Welcome for Pilgrims in Kashmir Valley

Upon their arrival in the Kashmir Valley, the pilgrims received a warm welcome from the local administration and residents. They are set to perform rituals at the cave temple, where the ice Shiva Lingam is naturally formed.

Robust Security Measures for the Yatra

To ensure the smooth conduct of the pilgrimage, stringent security arrangements have been implemented. Thousands of security personnel from the police, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and other paramilitary forces have been deployed, along with aerial surveillance. This pilgrimage will last for 57 days, concluding on August 28.

Officials reported that 3,865 pilgrims departed from the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in a convoy of 201 vehicles under the protection of security forces and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs). Among them, 1,735 individuals headed to the Baltal base camp in 115 vehicles, while 2,130 pilgrims moved towards the traditional Pahalgam base camp in Anantnag district in 86 vehicles.

Devotional Atmosphere at Bhagwati Nagar Base Camp

The atmosphere at the Bhagwati Nagar base camp was filled with devotion, as pilgrims chanted 'Bam Bam Bhole', 'Har Har Mahadev', and 'Jai Barfani Baba Ki' before commencing their journey.

Many expressed satisfaction with the arrangements made for the smooth and peaceful operation of the pilgrimage. On Thursday, the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha had flagged off the first group of 4,822 pilgrims from Bhagwati Nagar. With this new group, a total of 8,687 pilgrims have departed from the Jammu base camp for the valley since Thursday.

Enhanced Security for Safe Travel

To ensure the safe and smooth movement of the pilgrimage convoy, multi-layered security measures have been established along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and at all transit camps. A comprehensive security framework has been implemented around the Bhagwati Nagar base camp for the annual pilgrimage.
