New Library Unveiled at Jaipur Passport Office

Jaipur. On Thursday, MP Manju Sharma inaugurated a new library at the Regional Passport Office in Jaipur by cutting the ribbon. During the event, she encouraged the staff to engage in reading and emphasized that books serve as true guides and mentors in our lives. She also presented certificates to the winners of the 'Drawing & Painting and Quiz Competition' held on the theme of the Indian Constitution for the children of the office staff, boosting their morale.

The Regional Passport Officer, Vipul Dev, provided insights into the passport processing procedures and highlighted that the 'Passport Seva Project' is a highly ambitious initiative by the Government of India aimed at delivering passport and related services to citizens. He stated that 'Service, Good Governance, and Welfare of the Poor' are the three pillars of our governance system that will lead us towards a developed India. These principles are prominently reflected in our 'Passport Seva Program.' Under the leadership of the honorable Prime Minister, significant changes in public service delivery have been observed over the past 11 years. For instance, the number of passports issued rose from 9.1 million in 2014 to approximately 14.6 million in 2024.

Vipul Dev further explained that in line with the Government of India's commitment to providing excellent citizen-centric services, the PSP (Passport Seva Project) version 2.0 has been launched, which is based on the latest technology. A significant achievement of this initiative is the introduction of e-passport services currently in implementation. The contactless reading of data stored in the chip has made travel easier for Indian citizens and simplified interactions with immigration officials. Additionally, the m-passport police app has significantly reduced the time required for police verification for passports in 25 states/UTs where it has been implemented, decreasing the duration from 15-20 days to just 5-7 days.

The Regional Passport Office in Jaipur has also been able to extend its services to remote areas through mobile passport vans. These vans are periodically dispatched to various regions to provide passport services to local citizens. Over the past eight years, the Jaipur Passport Office has issued approximately 3 million passports, making it one of the leading offices in the country for such services. The number of passports issued by the Jaipur office increased from 273,142 in 2017 to nearly double that, 514,846, in 2024, reflecting the dedicated efforts of the staff in serving the citizens. Since the launch of PSP version 2.0 on February 17, 2025, nearly 150,000 e-passports have been issued in less than five months.

To enhance citizen services related to passports, the Jaipur Passport Office has introduced a walk-in facility from Monday to Friday (excluding Wednesday) from 10 AM to 12:30 PM, considering the time applicants spend waiting for online appointments. Applicants whose applications were submitted by February 17, 2025, and have not been issued due to any deficiencies can avail themselves of this facility to resolve their passport-related issues.
