Improvement in Assam Flood Situation as Water Levels Decrease

Current Status of Flooding in Assam

Guwahati, July 28 - The flood situation in Assam has shown signs of improvement, with water levels receding in several districts. Officials reported that there have been no new fatalities due to the floods, and the number of affected individuals has decreased to 445,000.

A central team visited Sivasagar, one of the districts most severely impacted by the floods, to assess the situation in the eastern regions of the state. According to official reports, the total death toll from the floods stands at 68, with no additional deaths or missing persons reported in the last 24 hours.

Sivasagar, Golaghat, Charadeiv, Jorhat, Nagaon, and Kamrup (Metro) districts continue to experience flooding. However, the number of affected individuals has dropped to 445,000, with Charadeiv being the hardest hit, where 188,000 people remain impacted.

Following Charadeiv, Sivasagar has 144,000 affected individuals, and Jorhat has 74,458. Just a few days ago, the number of people affected across five districts exceeded 524,000. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared on social media that efforts are underway to restore electricity in a phased manner in the affected areas.

In a post late Monday evening, the Chief Minister noted that the number of families without electricity has decreased by 25% since this morning. As floodwaters recede, electricity supply is being restored in more severely affected areas. He assured that he would continue to provide updates until power is restored to every affected household.

Sarma also mentioned that with the reduction of floodwaters, anti-infection spraying and fogging campaigns have been initiated in villages to prevent any outbreak of diseases.
