Global Air Travel Affected by Iran Conflict

The ongoing conflict involving Iran, which escalated following coordinated strikes by the United States and Israel on February 28, has significantly impacted international air travel. Airlines are suspending operations, rerouting flights, and modifying schedules as vast sections of Middle Eastern airspace remain either restricted or completely closed. Travelers heading to or from the Gulf region are experiencing delays, cancellations, and extended flight times as airlines navigate around conflict zones. Stay tuned for the latest updates regarding flight cancellations, diversions, airline advisories, and airport operations as of March 18 amid the intensifying situation in Iran.

Qatar Airways Resumes Limited Flights: 1,600 Indians Return Home

On Tuesday, approximately 1,600 Indian citizens returned to India aboard five flights operated by Qatar Airways, despite the airline's limited services due to airspace restrictions. The Indian Embassy in Qatar confirmed that the flights included two to Delhi and one each to Mumbai, Kochi, and Thiruvananthapuram. The embassy shared this information via social media, stating, "In total, about 1600 Indian nationals travelled on Qatar Airways flights today."

The embassy also noted that Qatar's airspace remains largely closed, and Qatar Airways is currently operating only a limited number of non-scheduled flights. The airline has announced plans to service nine Indian destinations starting Wednesday as part of a restricted flight schedule from Doha between March 18 and 28, 2026. They indicated that while some operations are suspended, they are committed to assisting affected passengers and facilitating their travel. Normal services will resume once the Qatar Civil Aviation Authority confirms the reopening of the airspace.

Qatar Airways has also warned that flight schedules may be altered or canceled based on operational, regulatory, or safety considerations. For passengers with bookings between February 28 and March 28, the airline is providing flexible options, including up to two complimentary date changes until April 30, 2026, or a full refund for unused tickets.

Akasa Air Launches Flights to Riyadh and Mumbai

Akasa Air is set to begin operations between Riyadh and Mumbai starting today (March 18, 2026). The airline will also continue its flights to and from Jeddah, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Kochi, allowing passengers to plan their travel accordingly.

The operation of these flights will depend on the current situation and ongoing safety assessments, and may be subject to change.
