IMD Issues Heatwave and Rain Alerts for Multiple States
Severe Heatwave Expected Across India
New Delhi: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning regarding an impending heatwave that is set to intensify in the coming days. The scorching temperatures that have already been felt are expected to rise even further. On Sunday, the IMD announced a new heatwave alert, indicating a strong likelihood of heat conditions in various regions of northwestern, central, and eastern India. On Saturday, temperatures soared to 45 degrees Celsius in Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh, and Wardha, Maharashtra, while Banda in Uttar Pradesh recorded a temperature of 44.6 degrees Celsius. The weather department has forecasted heatwave conditions in ten states in the upcoming days.
Heatwave warnings have been issued for the following ten states: Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Punjab, Haryana, Odisha, and the Union Territory of Chandigarh, as per the latest report from the weather department.
IMD's Heatwave Forecast for Upcoming Days
- April 19-20: Western Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh
- April 19-23: Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Eastern Rajasthan, and Eastern Madhya Pradesh
- April 20-21: Jharkhand
- April 20-22: Western Uttar Pradesh
- April 20-23: Western Rajasthan
- April 21-23: Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, and Odisha
Additionally, the weather department has issued warnings for southern India. On April 19 and 20, certain areas in Kerala and Mahe are expected to experience hot and humid weather. From April 19 to 23, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and coastal Karnataka will likely face similar conditions. Furthermore, from April 20 to 25, the western Bengal plains along the Ganges are also predicted to experience warm and humid weather.
