Shocking Discoveries at Nagaon Central Jail

Raha, Aug 29: A surprise inspection conducted by Nagaon Deputy Commissioner Debashish Sharma and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Swapnaneel Deka on Friday revealed alarming illegal activities occurring within Nagaon Central Jail, where two security personnel were allegedly supplying drugs to inmates.

Officials identified the two personnel as Patangi and Hazarika, who were reportedly providing drugs to a convict named Salim, believed to be orchestrating a significant drug operation from behind bars.

“Our unexpected visit unveiled shocking realities—Patangi and Hazarika were caught bringing drugs from outside and delivering them to Salimuddin. If they receive any warning about inspections, they manage to conceal everything in advance,” stated DC Sharma.

The inspection further uncovered that numerous convicts were enjoying a surprisingly comfortable lifestyle within the prison, having unrestricted access to illegal substances.

“Three canteens are functioning inside the jail, offering items such as fish, meat, soft drinks, and energy drinks. We discovered around 100 bottles of energy drinks, which inmates reportedly consume after using marijuana,” Sharma elaborated.

Jail Superintendent Mukul Bhuyan has been accused of turning a blind eye to these illicit activities.

“Such unlawful practices are occurring under the supervision of the jailer and superintendent. We will take stringent action, and the government has been notified. I personally witnessed these incidents,” Sharma remarked.

The District Commissioner has escalated the issue to the relevant authorities, and a thorough investigation is anticipated to follow.
