FDA Takes Action Against IIT Mumbai Mess Facilities

Mumbai, August 7 - The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced on Friday that it has issued notices to two mess establishments at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Mumbai, instructing them to cease operations due to a lack of necessary permits and registrations. The regulatory body revealed that during inspections of the mess facilities located in the Powai area, it was discovered that the operators did not possess the required licenses and registrations. Consequently, they were ordered to stop their operations.


During inspections of mess facilities in hostels 12, 13, and 14, the FDA identified several deficiencies and issued a notice to the food supplier, mandating necessary improvements. Meanwhile, under the leadership of the new FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, the state government agency has suspended licenses for several eateries and restaurants as part of a statewide food safety campaign.
