IIT Kharagpur Student Arrested for Alleged Rape of 13-Year-Old in Thane

A 23-year-old student from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur has been apprehended in Thane, Maharashtra, on charges of raping a 13-year-old girl. The police confirmed the arrest on Friday.

According to authorities, the suspect was taken into custody based on a complaint filed by the girl's mother on Thursday. He faces charges under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Reports indicate that the accused, who resides in the Kalwa area, allegedly lured the differently-abled girl with new clothes before subjecting her to sexual assault. An official stated, "The investigation team recovered a video of the sexual assault from the suspect's mobile phone, which also contained inappropriate videos and images of other girls."

There are suspicions that the accused may have targeted other women in the past. Authorities have confirmed that the investigation is ongoing.
