For the academic year 2026–27, admissions to all seven Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) will be determined solely by the IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) 2026, eliminating the consideration of JEE scores. This decision establishes a clear, science-oriented pathway for students aspiring to enter these prestigious research institutions.

The admission process for undergraduate programs at the IISERs has officially commenced, with the IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) 2026 set to take place on June 7, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM IST. The online application portal will open on March 5, 2026.

This year, entry into the seven IISER campuses will be strictly based on the IAT 2026 results, reinforcing its status as the exclusive gateway for aspiring science students.

Established by the Government of India, the IISERs are autonomous institutions focused on excellence in basic science education and advanced research. The IAT 2026 admissions will encompass the following campuses: IISER Berhampur, IISER Bhopal, IISER Kolkata, IISER Mohali, IISER Pune, IISER Thiruvananthapuram, and IISER Tirupati.

Prospective students can apply via the official admission portal, which also provides details about examination centers, eligibility criteria, and important deadlines.

A dedicated helpdesk has been established to assist candidates throughout the admission process. Students can reach out at +91 7205457461 between 2 PM and 5 PM on weekdays or email askjac2026@iiserbpr.ac.in for support.

Prof. Anil Kumar Tripathi, Director of IISER Mohali, highlighted the academic philosophy of the IISERs, stating that the institute fosters an environment where curiosity leads to innovation and knowledge contributes to societal advancement. He emphasized that the academic structure combines rigorous scientific training with opportunities in sports, culture, and extracurricular activities, promoting comprehensive student development.

The IISER Aptitude Test is crafted to establish a science-centric academic trajectory, enabling students to delve into various disciplines, including biological, chemical, mathematical, physical, and earth sciences, before choosing a specialization. This flexible and interdisciplinary curriculum provides students with a robust conceptual foundation and early exposure to research methodologies.

Over the years, graduates from IISERs have secured positions in leading global companies, esteemed research laboratories, and prestigious PhD programs worldwide. The institutes also offer extensive opportunities for internships, industry partnerships, and international exchange programs, preparing students for careers in research and development, academia, deep technology, and innovation-driven sectors.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who have completed Class XII or an equivalent examination, or have finished a minimum three-year diploma in the science stream in 2024, 2025, or 2026, with at least 60% aggregate marks (55% for SC/ST/PwD candidates), are eligible to apply. The aggregate will be calculated based on all subjects taken.

Applicants must have studied at least three subjects from Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics. Mathematics is essential for specific programs such as BS-MS Computational and Data Sciences at IISER Kolkata, B.Tech./BS Economic Sciences at IISER Bhopal, and BS Economic & Statistical Sciences at IISER Tirupati.

Special provisions are in place for JKBOSE Kashmir and Ladakh students from the December 2023 batch, who will be considered as 2024 pass-outs. Kashmiri migrant candidates must upload a domicile certificate during the application process. Reservations will be implemented according to Government of India policy—15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, 27% for OBC-NCL, 5% for PwD, and up to 10% for EWS candidates, along with supernumerary seats for Kashmiri migrants.
