IICA Launches First Regional Campus in Northeast India
Establishment of IICA's Regional Campus
New Delhi, June 3: The Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs (IICA) has announced the establishment of its inaugural regional campus in the northeast, aimed at enhancing corporate governance and sustainable development.
The IICA, operating under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, has secured a five-acre site in New Shillong Township, Meghalaya, for this new campus.
With an investment of Rs 100.95 crore from the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North-East (PM-DevINE), the Shillong campus is set to serve as a regional center for specialized training, research, and policy advisory in various critical areas.
Donald Phillips Wahlang, Chief Secretary of the Meghalaya government, emphasized the state's dedication to knowledge-driven growth and noted the strategic placement of the IICA campus within the Knowledge City cluster.
This area is already home to prestigious institutions such as IIM Shillong, National Law University Meghalaya, and NIFT, fostering a rich environment for academic and professional collaboration.
Wahlang also mentioned the upcoming development of a new airport in Shillong, which will significantly improve regional connectivity, making the campus more accessible to professionals, faculty, and students nationwide.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, this infrastructural advancement will solidify Shillong's role as a prominent academic and policy center in the northeast.
Gyaneshwar Kumar Singh, DG and CEO of IICA, described this moment as historic, referring to the Shillong campus as 'our first baby outside Delhi — a symbol of decentralization and empowerment.'
He highlighted the campus's potential to foster entrepreneurship, capacity building, and good governance, aligning with national objectives like ease of doing business, Atmanirbhar Bharat, and Vikshit Bharat by 2047.
Singh referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision during the Rising Northeast initiatives, noting that the Prime Minister has consistently recognized the northeast as the 'Ashtalakshmi of India' — a region abundant in diversity, talent, and potential.
In line with this vision, he stated, 'IICA is proud to contribute to the transformation of the region from a remote periphery to a dynamic growth engine of New India.'
Deepti Gaur Mukerjee, Secretary of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, remarked that this collaboration embodies the essence of cooperative federalism and the Centre’s vision of empowering the northeast as a growth engine.
