Identification of Victims in Tragic Yamuna Expressway Accident
Victims Identified After Fatal Collision
At the beginning of this month, a tragic accident on the Yamuna Expressway in Mathura district resulted in the deaths of 16 unidentified individuals. Authorities have successfully identified 11 of these victims through DNA testing, and their remains have been returned to their families.
According to an official statement from the Deputy Superintendent of Police in the Mahavan area, blood samples were collected from relatives of the deceased to aid in the identification process following the collision involving multiple buses and cars on December 16, which also led to a fire.
District Information Officer Prashant Suchari reported that relatives of all 16 unidentified victims provided blood samples to the health department, which facilitated the DNA matching process. So far, the identities of 11 victims have been confirmed, and their bodies have been handed over to their families.
Officials noted that while many families took the remains back to their home districts for burial, some chose to conduct the last rites at the banks of the Yamuna River in Mathura. The identities of five bus passengers are still pending confirmation.
This devastating fire claimed the lives of 19 passengers. Initially, only three victims could be identified, while others succumbed to their injuries at Agra's SN Medical College, where they were receiving treatment for severe burns.
