ICC Women's T20 World Cup Qualifiers Set to Begin in January 2024
Tournament Overview
The ICC Women's T20 World Cup Global Qualifiers schedule was revealed on Wednesday, featuring an opening match between Bangladesh and the Netherlands on January 14, with the final match slated for February 1.
Competing Teams
A total of 10 teams will compete for four coveted spots in the prestigious women's T20I tournament, which is scheduled to take place from June 12 to July 5 in England and Wales. India finds itself in a challenging Group A alongside Pakistan, South Africa, Australia, and two teams emerging from these qualifiers.
Group B Composition
Group B consists of England, the reigning champions New Zealand, West Indies, and Sri Lanka.
Qualifier Venues and Match Schedule
The qualifiers will be hosted in Kathmandu at two venues: Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground and Mulpani Cricket Ground (Upper & Lower), as confirmed by the ICC.
On the opening day, the matches will feature Zimbabwe facing Papua New Guinea, while hosts Nepal will compete against Ireland in the morning. In the afternoon, Namibia will take on Thailand, and the USA will clash with Scotland.
Tournament Format and Group Breakdown
The tournament will include 10 teams divided into two groups of five. Group A features Bangladesh, Ireland, Namibia, Papua New Guinea, and the USA, while Group B includes Nepal, the Netherlands, Scotland, Thailand, and Zimbabwe.
The top three teams from each group will progress to the Super 6s stage, competing in a round-robin format. The four leading teams at the end of this stage will secure their places in the World Cup.
