IBM's Commitment to Skill Development in India

New Delhi, Dec 19: IBM has unveiled a significant initiative aimed at enhancing skill development in India, with plans to educate 5 million individuals in cutting-edge technologies like Artificial Intelligence, cybersecurity, and quantum computing by the year 2030.

This initiative will be implemented through IBM SkillsBuild, focusing on equipping both students and adult learners with essential digital and job-oriented skills, thereby preparing a workforce ready for the future.

The program emphasizes inclusivity and accessibility in advanced technology education.

IBM intends to broaden the reach of AI and emerging technology education across various educational institutions, including schools, universities, and vocational training centers.

In collaboration with organizations such as the All India Council for Technical Education, IBM will promote practical learning through AI-centric courses, faculty training, curriculum integration, hackathons, and internship opportunities.

Arvind Krishna, IBM's Chairman, President, and CEO, expressed confidence in India's potential to emerge as a global leader in AI and quantum technologies.

He stated, “India has the talent and ambition to lead the world in AI & Quantum. Mastery of advanced technologies will shape economic competitiveness, scientific advancement, and societal change.”

Krishna added, “By making advanced skills accessible, we empower youth and students to innovate and drive India’s growth.”

IBM is also enhancing AI education at the school level by co-developing an AI curriculum for senior secondary students and supplying teaching materials such as an AI Project Cookbook, a teacher's guide, and explanatory modules.

These initiatives aim to introduce computational thinking and responsible AI principles early on, assisting educators in effectively teaching AI.

Central to this initiative is IBM SkillsBuild, recognized as one of the largest and most accessible digital learning platforms globally, offering over 1,000 courses in areas such as AI, cybersecurity, quantum computing, cloud computing, data management, sustainability, and workplace skills.
