Husband Sentenced to 20 Years for Pregnant Wife's Death in Scotland
Tragic Incident on Arthur's Seat
A court in Scotland has sentenced Kashif Anwar to 20 years in prison for a heinous act against his pregnant wife. The chilling words spoken by his wife moments before her death played a crucial role in bringing him to justice. Let's delve into the details of this tragic event that unfolded on the heights of Arthur's Seat.
The Shocking Crime
Arthur's Seat, a popular tourist destination in Edinburgh, became the site of a horrific crime. Anwar took his 17-week pregnant wife to this scenic location, fed her, and then lured her to a high point under the pretense of watching the sunset. Once there, he verbally abused her and then pushed her off a 50-foot cliff, believing he could escape his responsibilities.
The Couple's Troubled Relationship
The story began with the marriage of Fawzia Javed and Kashif Anwar, which took place on December 25, 2020, after a brief courtship. Fawzia, a lawyer, had met Anwar at an eyewear store. However, soon after their wedding, Anwar's abusive behavior surfaced, prompting Fawzia to confide in her mother about her desire to leave him. Unfortunately, she became pregnant, complicating her situation.
A Vacation Turned Deadly
During a vacation in Edinburgh on September 1, 2021, Fawzia's unhappiness with her marriage intensified. She had resolved to separate from Anwar upon returning home. However, no one could have predicted that this trip would be her last. Anwar pushed her off the cliffs of Arthur's Seat, where she fell approximately 15 meters and became trapped.
Desperate Pleas for Help
As Fawzia lay injured, a passerby named Dania Rafiq noticed her and called for help. Fawzia, still alive, cried out, 'Don’t let my husband near me; he pushed me!' Despite her injuries, she was primarily concerned about the fate of her unborn child, repeatedly asking if the baby was okay.
The Aftermath and Court Proceedings
When police arrived, Fawzia recounted the events leading to her fall, stating that Anwar had assaulted her after she expressed her intention to leave him. Tragically, before the police could assist her, she suffered a heart attack while hanging from the cliff and died. Anwar, who initially claimed innocence, was arrested and faced trial in Edinburgh.
Justice Served
Despite Anwar's attempts to fabricate a story, the testimonies of Fawzia's mother, the police officer, and the witness who first saw her after the fall were compelling. The court found Anwar guilty and sentenced him to a minimum of 20 years in prison for his wife's murder.
