Humayun Kabir's Commitment to Development
Following the impressive victory of the BJP in the West Bengal elections, Humayun Kabir, the founder of the Upliftment Party (AJYUP) and newly elected MLA from the Nauda constituency, has announced his intention to focus on district development while serving in opposition. Kabir stated that if the government engages in any 'wrongdoing', he will inform the public to encourage them to vote against the BJP in future elections.
In an interview, Kabir expressed, 'I will remain in opposition. The BJP has secured a significant number of seats. My focus will be on working for the district and the region, and if the government commits any wrong acts, I will make the public aware of the BJP's missteps so that they can vote against them in the upcoming elections.' His remarks come in the wake of the BJP's historic win in West Bengal, where the party claimed over 200 seats in the 294-member assembly, effectively ending the decades-long dominance of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and leftist forces. This outcome has dealt a severe blow to the TMC, with several senior ministers, including Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, losing their seats.
Samik Bhattacharya, the president of the West Bengal BJP, confirmed that the new government led by the BJP will take the oath of office on May 9, coinciding with the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore. Following the results, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju described the BJP's sweeping victory in the West Bengal assembly elections as a 'battle for the existence of India,' marking it as a pivotal moment for democracy and the cultural identity of the nation.
Speaking to the media, Rijiju emphasized that the victory in Bengal is not just a typical political win. It represents a struggle for India's culture, heritage, and identity, and in a sense, for the existence of India itself. This is not merely a victory for the BJP; it is a triumph for the entire nation. Democracy has been strengthened. He further noted that this decision signals a shift towards stability in the state and an end to political violence.
