Formation of a New Political Party
On Monday, former Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir announced the establishment of a new political party named the Janata Unnayan Party. Prior to this launch, the suspended TMC leader stated that the party is intended to serve the common people. Kabir mentioned, "I am launching a new party this afternoon. This party is being created to work for the common man."
Background of the Party's Formation
Humayun Kabir's new political venture comes after his suspension from the Trinamool Congress following claims of inaugurating a Babri Masjid in Murshidabad district on December 6. Defending his actions, Kabir asserted that the Constitution grants him the right to construct a mosque. While addressing a gathering in Murshidabad, he stated, "I am not doing anything unconstitutional. Anyone can build a temple or a church; I will build a mosque. There is no written rule that we cannot construct a Babri Masjid."
Legal and Political Context
He further noted that the Supreme Court had ruled that the Babri Masjid was demolished by Hindu individuals, and the decision to build a temple was made considering Hindu sentiments. Kabir pointed out that while a Ram temple's foundation is being laid in Sagardighi, the Constitution allows for the construction of a mosque. Meanwhile, Mohan Bhagwat, the chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), accused Kabir of orchestrating a "political conspiracy" to reignite the Babri Masjid controversy. Bhagwat remarked that the foundation-laying ceremony in Murshidabad is being conducted for electoral gains, benefiting neither Hindus nor Muslims.
Reactions to the Controversy
In Kolkata, Mohan Bhagwat stated that the reconstruction of the Babri Masjid is a political ploy aimed at stirring up controversy for votes, which should not happen. In response to Bhagwat's comments regarding the alleged call for the construction of the Babri Masjid, Humayun Kabir accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of having ties with the RSS, claiming that she is facilitating the organization's influence in the state.
