On Wednesday morning, a bus operated by the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) narrowly avoided a serious accident in the tribal area of Bharmour subdivision. The vehicle, which runs daily from the remote Kugti Panchayat to Bharmour, almost fell into a steep gorge after a section of the road collapsed near Sandi, close to Hadsar.
Reports indicate that the bus departed Kugti at approximately 8 a.m., carrying around 12 passengers, including schoolchildren, local workers, and villagers, with an expected arrival in Bharmour by 9 a.m. As the bus neared the Sandi area, which had already been impacted by a landslide, the roadside embankment gave way. This left the front tire of the bus precariously hanging in the air, causing alarm among those on board.
Fortunately, the quick thinking of the driver, along with a crash barrier installed along the roadside, prevented the bus from tumbling into the turbulent river below. All passengers were safely evacuated, and there were no reported injuries.
Residents in the area noted that the incident was a result of ongoing landslides and road subsidence. They have called on local authorities to promptly repair the road and enhance safety measures to avert similar dangerous situations in the future.
