New Delhi, April 3: Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), a state-owned entity, announced on Friday the suspension of 10 liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) distributors due to alleged irregularities, reaffirming its commitment to a strict zero-tolerance policy regarding misconduct in its distribution system.
The company shared this update via the social media platform X, indicating that it has taken decisive action against the distributors involved in malpractice.
"Our zero-tolerance stance ensures accountability, and we are taking prompt disciplinary measures as necessary," stated the company in an official announcement.
This action aligns with the government's increased efforts to address irregularities and misinformation surrounding LPG distribution and availability.
On Thursday, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas urged states and Union Territories to enhance proactive communication to combat rumors and misinformation that have led to panic buying and stockpiling in certain regions.
The ministry highlighted the rise of misinformation and fake news regarding the availability and pricing of petroleum products, including LPG, across social media, which has further strained the distribution network.
It also requested that states and UTs hold daily press conferences at senior levels to ensure the timely sharing of accurate information through various media channels, reassuring the public about sufficient availability and smooth supply.
The government has called for continued stringent actions against malpractices such as hoarding and black marketing.
HPCL emphasized that its primary focus is on protecting consumer interests, ensuring transparency, and delivering reliable services.
In a subsequent post, the public sector company expressed its serious concern over instances of malpractice by dealers and confirmed that strict actions have been initiated against those breaching established norms and guidelines.
"We maintain a zero-tolerance policy against any actions that undermine customer interests, transparency, or service integrity. We are enforcing accountability and implementing necessary disciplinary actions as required," the statement concluded.
