The Importance of Kargil Vijay Diwas
Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed every year on July 26, holds immense significance for all Indians. It commemorates the bravery, sacrifice, and unwavering determination of the Indian armed forces during the Kargil War of 1999. On this day, we honor the courageous soldiers who laid down their lives to safeguard our nation's sovereignty and integrity.
The Kargil War began in May 1999 when intruders crossed the Line of Control and occupied Indian positions on high ridges, aiming to disrupt National Highway 1A, a crucial route connecting Srinagar to Leh. However, they underestimated India's resolve. The country launched Operation Vijay, a meticulously planned mission characterized by determination and the indomitable spirit of its soldiers. For over two months, Indian forces fought relentlessly across challenging terrain until every intruder was expelled and all posts were restored to Indian control.
