Honda Issues Recall for Over 880,000 Vehicles Due to Safety Concerns
Honda Faces Major Recall
Honda is currently dealing with a significant issue as it announces a recall affecting more than 880,000 vehicles. This action follows alerts from federal safety authorities regarding a potential risk that could lead to drivers losing control while driving. The concern centers around a component located beneath the vehicle that may not perform as intended in certain situations.
Identifying the Problematic Component
The main concern involves the rear subframe, a crucial structural element that supports the suspension system. According to Honda, this part can experience corrosion over time, and if it deteriorates sufficiently, it could compromise the suspension's integrity. Such a failure could leave drivers unable to steer or control their vehicles effectively, as noted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Honda estimates that approximately 1% of the recalled vehicles may have this defect, based on reports from various news outlets.
Models Affected by the Recall
The recall encompasses four specific models. For Honda, this includes the Pilot manufactured between 2016 and 2022, the Ridgeline from 2017 to 2023, and the Passport from 2019 to 2023. Additionally, the Acura MDX from model years 2014 to 2020 is also included in this recall.
Geographical Scope of the Recall
This recall does not apply to all states. It specifically pertains to vehicles sold in 23 states and Washington D.C., primarily in the Midwest and Northeast regions, where severe winters and extensive use of road salt can accelerate the deterioration of metal parts. The affected states include Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.
Steps for Vehicle Owners
Honda will begin sending notification letters to the owners of the affected vehicles starting July 7, 2026. Upon receiving this letter, owners are encouraged to visit a dealership where the rear subframe components will be repaired or replaced at no cost. Vehicle owners can reference the NHTSA recall number 26V365000 to verify their specific vehicle's status on the NHTSA website.
