This statement followed Ireland's stunning 34-run triumph over India, the reigning T20 World Cup champions, during their first match after securing back-to-back titles on home ground, under the leadership of newly appointed T20I captain Shreyas Iyer.

After the match, Brian stated, "It is fantastic. Days like that make the job all the more satisfying. I am really pleased for the players. They put a lot of time and effort into this. For them to have the opportunity to show the world just how good they are in terms of the cricket that they can play against a very good Indian side. It was really satisfying. It was a great day for Irish cricket."

He also mentioned that the team, led by Lorcan Tucker, entered the first T20I of the two-match series with several key players sidelined due to injuries. This situation highlighted the depth of talent within Irish cricket. A standout performance came from Jai Moondra, a left-arm pacer of Indian descent, who took 2 wickets for 25 runs in four overs, including the prized wicket of T20 World Cup 'Player of the Tournament' Sanju Samson on his very first delivery in international cricket.

He emphasized the need for the team to engage in more consistent matches against top-tier nations and in franchise cricket to enhance their competitive edge.
"We aim to consistently qualify and compete in ICC events. To achieve this, we need to play more cricket at the highest level, both internationally and in franchise cricket. That is why we are launching the European T20 Premier League in a couple of months. The inaugural match will take place on August 26. Such games are crucial for our players to gain experience against the best in the world," he added.
Introducing the European T20 Premier League
The European T20 Premier League is set to run from August 26 to September 20, 2026. This tournament will feature six city-based franchises from Glasgow, Amsterdam, Edinburgh, Dublin, Belfast, and Rotterdam, aiming to transform the cricketing landscape in Europe. With 32 matches scheduled, the league will serve as a premier platform for emerging European talent to compete alongside renowned international players, fostering the growth of cricket in Ireland, Scotland, and the Netherlands.
