On Friday, the Japan Cricket Association (JCA) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed plans for a T20 International match between their men's teams. This event is set to commemorate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Japan, as stated in a release from the BCCI.

Scheduled for September 22, 2026, the Suzuki Cup will be hosted at the Sano International Cricket Ground located in Tochigi Prefecture. The match marks the beginning of 'Sport 75', an initiative born from discussions between Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This initiative aims to foster human exchanges and collaboration in sports, especially in light of India's aspirations to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2036.

BCCI's Vision for Cricket Expansion

Devajit Saikia, Honorary Secretary of the BCCI, expressed excitement about participating in this historic T20I in Japan. He emphasized that this match represents a crucial step in expanding the reach of Indian cricket into new regions, particularly Japan and East Asia. Saikia remarked, 'This is a significant moment for cricket, as it allows the Indian team to explore new territories and introduces the sport to a broader audience in Japan and East Asia.'
