Players of Indian Heritage in World Cup 2026
Tharoor highlighted that 19-year-old winger Tahsin Mohammed Jamshid has made history as the first player of Indian origin to be selected for Qatar's national team, proudly representing his family's roots from Kannur, Kerala. He noted, "Tahsin Mohammed Jamshid, at just 19, is the first player of Indian descent to join the Qatar national team, carrying the pride of his Kannur heritage. Following in the Footsteps of Vikash Dhorasoo

He remarked, "These players follow in the footsteps of Vikash Dhorasoo, a talented midfielder whose family migrated from Vizianagaram to Mauritius and later to France, representing the French National Team in the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, where he earned a runners-up medal."
Pride in the Global Indian Diaspora
Tharoor expressed his pride in the accomplishments of the Indian diaspora, stating that the increasing representation of players with Indian roots on such a prestigious stage is a cause for celebration. He added, "Witnessing the global Indian diaspora making its mark on football's grandest platform is truly delightful. I wish both young athletes the best of luck as they prepare for North America."
