This week, the esteemed Mata Shri Baglamukhi Devi Temple Trust in Bankhandi, Kangra, became a focal point of devotion as a significant spiritual ceremony took place, blessed by Mahamaya Mahavidya Maa Baglamukhi Ji.

Ceremony Upholding Tradition

In a gathering that included trustees, priests, saints, and villagers, Mahant Rajat Giri Ji, the temple's head, officially designated his son Deven Giri as his disciple (chela), thereby continuing the temple's ancient spiritual lineage.

This appointment was not just a formality; it was a reaffirmation of the temple's long-standing traditions. The ceremony was conducted in the presence of members from the Dashnam Shri Panch Bhekh Gosaiyan (Register No. 112, All India), ensuring that the spiritual succession received recognition and blessings from a broader community of saints and mahants across the nation.

The event commenced with prayers to Maa Baglamukhi, seeking her blessings for strength, wisdom, and protection. Mahant Rajat Giri Ji, who is a disciple of the late Mahant Shri Devi Giri and grandson-disciple of the late Mahant Shri Shanti Giri, highlighted the significance of maintaining continuity in spiritual leadership. He stated, “This temple is not merely a place of worship; it embodies a living tradition. Appointing Deven Giri as my disciple ensures that the flame of devotion and service continues to shine brightly.”

A Gathering of Devotees

The ceremony attracted a large crowd of devotees, villagers, and pilgrims from various regions. The temple courtyard resonated with chants and hymns, filled with the aroma of incense as attendees came together to witness this sacred occasion. Trustees, Brahmin priests, Acharyas, and respected village elders actively participated, offering blessings to the newly appointed disciple.

For many attendees, this event was a unique chance to observe the continuation of a spiritual lineage that has guided the temple for generations. One devotee expressed, “We feel blessed to be part of this historic occasion. Maa Baglamukhi’s grace is upon all of us today,” with tears of joy in his eyes.

Paying Tribute to Past Mahants

The ceremony also honored the late Mahants who dedicated their lives to the temple. After the appointment, Mahant Rajat Giri Ji, along with other saints and devotees, visited the samadhis (memorial shrines) of the late Mahant Shri Devi Giri and Mahant Shri Shanti Giri, offering special prayers to seek their blessings for the temple's future.

This act of remembrance highlighted the temple's deep respect for its spiritual predecessors. A senior trustee remarked, “Our strength lies in the blessings of those who came before us. Their guidance continues to illuminate our path.”

The Grand Mahayajna Ceremony

Following the appointment and homage rituals, a Mahayajna (grand fire sacrifice) was conducted. Priests recited Vedic mantras, invoking divine energies for peace, prosperity, and spiritual upliftment. This yajna symbolized purification and renewal, marking a new chapter in the temple's journey.

The sight of flames rising amidst the chants created a powerful atmosphere of devotion. Devotees participated by offering ahutis (sacred offerings) into the fire, each act representing a surrender to the divine will of Maa Baglamukhi.

Community Spirit and Hospitality

In keeping with the temple's tradition of service, elaborate arrangements were made for the visiting saints, mahants, and devotees. A grand feast (bhandara) was organized, where everyone—regardless of status—was served food with love and respect. Pilgrims from distant villages expressed their gratitude for the hospitality, noting that such arrangements reflected the temple’s commitment to community and inclusivity.

One devotee from Mandi district, who traveled overnight to attend the ceremony, remarked, “The food was not just nourishment; it was prasad, blessed by Maa Baglamukhi herself.”

The Spiritual Essence of Baglamukhi Devi

Maa Baglamukhi, one of the ten Mahavidyas in Hindu tradition, is revered as the goddess of power, victory, and protection. Devotees believe her blessings can silence negativity, overcome obstacles, and ensure success in both spiritual and worldly endeavors. The temple at Bankhandi has long been a hub for Baglamukhi worship, drawing pilgrims from across India.

The appointment of a new disciple guarantees that the temple continues to be a beacon of faith. An Acharya present at the event stated, “Baglamukhi Mata’s blessings are eternal. With Deven Giri stepping into this sacred path, the temple’s spiritual energy will only grow stronger.”

A Message of Blessings and Continuity

In his closing remarks, Mahant Rajat Giri Ji expressed gratitude to all attendees for their presence and blessings. “This temple belongs to every devotee. With Maa Baglamukhi’s grace, may her blessings remain upon all of you. May our community continue to thrive in devotion and unity,” he said.

Deven Giri, the newly appointed disciple, humbly accepted the blessings from saints, trustees, and devotees. “I will dedicate myself to serving Maa Baglamukhi and the temple family. With your guidance and blessings, I will walk this path with sincerity,” he stated, marking the start of his spiritual journey.
